OK, I was doing some USA Today crosswords online tonight, and I clicked back to the 6/12 puzzle, and despite solving the puzzle, one of the clues just didn't make any sense to me:

32 Down: Dance Party (5 letters)

The answer was REEDS.

Is there something I'm missing or does this really make no sense at all? The quality of the USA Today puzzles isn't always stupendous, but come on.

Yeah, the Umhlanga thing was the only connection I saw while googling, but it seemed a bit too obscure for the average USA Today reader. At least now I know a wee bit more about Swazi ceremonials than I did before! ;)

Other than the Swazi dance, there is a possible connection if "Dance" is a typo or a spell-check correction of "Donner" and another word is left off. The Donner Party tragedy is also known as the Donner-Reed Party sometimes. That would be a stretch, though.

Other than that, I, Google, Yahoo and Wikipedia got nuttin.
